Deciphering the correct locations requires a successful DC 20 arcana or DC 20 occultism check; on a critical failure, the mere act of placing the gumdrops activates the Malicious Metamorphosis reaction. Once the enchantment is disabled, the magic circles can be wiped away like any regular icing.
A magic circle made of royal icing seals the trap door to the gristmill's basement shut and plays a nasty trick on anyone who tries to open it without all three of its gumdrop keys.
